Camp Jam Returns to Orlando
By Jim Abbott
Camp Jam, America’s best rock ‘n’ roll summer day camp with programs this summer in Orlando and 13 other cities nationwide, and NAMM, the international music products association, are teaming up with area music stores to present The Camp Jam Ready-Set-ROCK! Tour, an interactive, educational music experience for youth rockers in the Orlando area and starring a legendary rock musician.
The free event, which will be offered at three locations beginning March 30, will kick off with a special concert performance by Pat Travers, the guitar legend best known for his rockin’ rendition of the blues classic, "Boom Boom Out Go the Lights". Travers, along with Camp Jam’s pro music instructors, will trade licks and share tricks of the trade with the young rock musicians in attendance, providing them with valuable tips to hone their rock ‘n’ roll chops.
Also at each location, Camp Jam and NAMM will host a Best Rock Solo Contest with the winning rocker receiving a $100 music store gift card. All guitarists, bass players, drummers, keyboardists and singers, ages seven to 17, are invited to come down, plug in and play their best 30-second rock solo.
In addition to taking place in Orlando, The Camp Jam Ready-Set-ROCK!
Tour will travel to a total of 14 cities nationwide this spring, providing a "backstage" look at what young rockers can expect when attending either of the camp’s two programs: Camp Jam Rock ‘n’ Roll
Summer Day Camp (ages 11 to 17) and Camp Jam Kidz (ages 7 to 10).
Additional cities hosting The Camp Jam Ready-Set-ROCK! Tour include:
Atlanta, Chicago, Cleveland, Dallas, Denver, Detroit, Houston, Irvine, Calif., Los Angeles, Philadelphia, Phoenix, St. Louis and Washington D.C.
