Moms to rock in contest for Camp Jam

Rockin' Moms and their musical progeny should get ready for Camp Jam's "Ready-Set-ROCK! Tour" April 18, featuring a "My Mom Rocks" Live Band Karaoke Contest and a Young Musicians Rock Solo Contest.

In the "My Mom Rocks" contest, moms will battle it out on stage with a live band's backing and the chance to win their child a free week to Camp Jam summer camp and $100 spa gift certificate. Participating moms can sing: "Hit Me With Your Best Shot," "I Love Rock 'n' Roll," "Satisfaction" or "Sweet Child O' Mine."

In the "Rock Solo Contest," youngsters 7 to 17 can plug in and play their best 30-second rock solo for a chance to win a free week to Camp Jam's Rock 'N' Roll Summer Day Camp and a $100 music store gift card. The contest is open to guitarists, bass players, drummers, keyboardists and vocalists.

The events are slated to take place April 18 at two Pittsburgh-area locations: Swissvale Music, 2037 Noble St., at 11:30 a.m. and Brighton Music, 2110 Babcock Blvd., Ross, at 2 p.m.
