All of Camp Jam's Instrument Classes are taught by experienced, professional instructors and give camp jammers access to top-of-the-line musical gear provided by Peavey, Ibanez and Roland. Campers also learn about the history of rock, participate in audio and video "rock labs", learn stage performance skills, attend an "Unplugged Cafe" class to prep for acoustic recordings and take a course in basic audio engineering and production.
Additionally, Camp Jam also ensures that campers learn about the business behind the music industry. Offering “Master Classes,” the program invites notable music industry professionals and artists to make guest appearances at the camp and share firsthand accounts of life in the music business. In the past, special appearances were made by noted performers including Rolling Stone keyboardist Chuck Leavell, Billy Joel drummer Liberty DeVitto, former Lynyrd Skynyrd guitar/bass player Ed King and writer of rock anthem "Eye of the Tiger" and Survivor band member, Jim Peterik.
“We believe that Camp Jam’s strong roots in the music industry give young musicians an unrivaled opportunity to maximize individual potential," said Danny Lipson, Camp Jam co-founder. "Our curriculum includes classes to provide hands-on practical experience, but are also designed so that students can develop an understanding of the steps necessary for future success."
The Camp Jam program also focuses on teamwork by matching individuals not already in a band with other campers based on age and ability. Together, under the direction of a professional instructor, band members learn the fundamentals of practicing with a group and rehearsal techniques, as well as songwriting and recording. These learnings combined with the week-long classes and practice sessions all come together on the camp’s final day, where each student band performs a song of their choice live on stage at Camp Jam's Friday Night Rock Concert for their friends and family.
