What is Camp Jam After School?

Individual music lessons are great, but it’s no fun to play alone. That’s where Camp Jam After School (CJA) can help. This 12-week jamming band program for ages 10-16 meets at a designated time each week for 90 minutes, after school or Saturday. The curriculum teaches all aspects of being in a rock band. Students will form a band, learn songs, rehearse, play a live rock concert and learn the importance of teamwork and leadership skills. In addition, they will learn basic songwriting and stage performance. All guitarists, bass players, drummers, keyboard players and singers are welcome.

The program culminates in a live student rock concert at a local venue. Atlanta concert venues have included Hard Rock Café, Dave and Busters and 2nd Stage Theater. CJA operates out of convenient locations - schools, churches, rec centers, etc. - which makes rocking easy and convenient for kids and parents alike.

Camp Jam After School also offers an optional 30-minute instrument specific group lesson before or after each band session (recommended). Experienced instructors who use Camp Jam’s Rock Solid Instruction books as part of the core curriculum teach each group lesson. Group lessons will focus on technique, rhythmic development, ear training and more.

CJA’s specially designed rehearsal stations are virtually noiseless to those not plugged in, so several bands can be rehearsing simultaneously in the same room. This proven method of Camp Jam instruction ensures focus because band members are taught to listen to each other and preserves hearing.

The CJA program has been enthusiastically received on our campus. Class members love the opportunity to get together and Jam with students who share their passion for rock music - new & old. The end of term show was a huge success!

My 10-year old son has honed his electric guitar chops at CJA at his school and Camp Jam for the summer for going on two years now. He loves the programs and has learned so much- not only improving his playing, but learning how to work with bandmates and even how the music industry works. For a kid who showed a preference for AC/DC and Led Zeppelin over Kidzbop from the ripe old age of 6, CJA and Camp Jam are the perfect outlets for my son's musical creativity.
