ƒBorn and raised in Norwalk, Connecticut, Robert’s family was a musical one. At the age of five, he played side-by-side with his father. He learned to play drums, keyboards, and any other instrument he happened upon at home. Robert began taking private drum lessons at age six. By the age of nine, Robert was introduced by one of his teachers to the group Chicago. At the time** Robert was influenced by Ozzy Ozbourne, Black Sabbath, Cream, The Beatles, Rush, Van Halen, Iron Maiden, AC DC, Led Zeppelin, and KISS. To date, his favorite drummers are Buddy Rich, Neil Peart, Mike Portnoy and Ginger Baker.
Robert played in his first rock band during his freshman year of high school. The band, Vital Signs was comprised of older, more advanced players, but Robert fit right in. They performed a variety of cover songs ranging from Rush to Night Ranger. After high school, Robert attended Western Connecticut State University (WCSU) as a Music Education student. During his time at WCSU, Robert coached high school marching bands. He was fascinated with and passionate about teaching drum lines. At the same time, he dreamed about becoming a rock star.
In 1988, Robert joined the hard rock group, Still Life and began his four year journey in search of a recording deal. Still Life performed in New York City at a time when rock clubs were emerging and to “make it big” in the recording industry. Robert and his band mates performed at venues including the iconic CGBG’s and The Cat Club in New York City.
After four years and a sadly unsuccessful showcase for Sony Music, Robert departed from Still Life to focus on starting a family and teaching. Robert has been a private drum teacher for twenty-three years. He has played in numerous cover and original bands playing music of all genres. Currently, Robert is the Music Director at Davis Academy in Atlanta. He also plays percussion for Parkway Baptist Church in Duluth, has been the “hired drummer” for Ridgeview Middle School musicals, and has exposed himself to all styles of music.
Robert believes that “As long as I am a musician, I will always be a student too” because he truly supports the concept that there is always more to be learned. Robert currently resides in Milton with his wife and children.
